Well opening night has come and gone and what a great night the Band Challenge was, with Weekend Warriors winning the award for best band - at The Theatre.
On the first Saturday we had 19 choirs from the surrounding area including 7 junior and 12 seniors, with over 800 performers and audience in the Town Hall on the day.
We had Jazz, from the Ben Holder Quartet on Sunday evening and almost all that came along were enthralled by the quartet's lively, energetic and varied performance.
The first of two primary school workshops brought almost 120 children from Holy Trinity, St Mary’s, Enstone and Chadlington to perform a melody of songs celebrating mountains and rivers. A second workshop with 3 more schools in week two was another successful event bringing together schools and children from surrounding villages.
On Thursday evening 13th Eva Maria Doroszkowska performed on piano along with a presentation as she took us on an exploration of just a few famous and intrepid female pianists in “keyboard herstory”.
Lizzie Soden and Lydia Tomita on 15 March performed to a packed house on the middle Saturday with “songs and music to make you smile”.
We also had a varied lineup for the now annual Young Performers' Recital evening on Wednesday 19th.
There was Folk at The Chequers and a full house in the Town Hall for the Festival Concert - showcasing the best of the Festival and the awards evening.
And to complete on the Sunday a Family Concert, encouraging grandparents, parents and children to hear how music can tell a story and to see and hear the joy of music.
The Festival fortnight brings a wide variety of music and genres to the town each year with over 420 class entries, 8 concerts and over 3000 people either performing, watching and supporting this really is a Festival to celebrate in the town.
